The Wine Feed, a wine delivery service in downtown Raleigh

The Wine Feed is a new Raleigh-based internet shop where you can order wine and have it delivered (by bike!) within a two-mile radius of their office in the Carter Building at 18-B Glenwood Ave.

The service is offered from 2-4 pm and 6-7:30 pm, Monday-Friday and 3-5 pm on Saturday. If you need a delivery outside the two-mile radius, they also offer in-town car delivery with the purchase of six bottles or more. Orders must be placed at least 30 minutes prior to the desired delivery time. Of course, you can also pick up the wines in person. (If you do stop in, visit my friend, Lori White’s, art studio nearby!)

Right now there are about 20 wines available, all under $20.

Studio 91 – a new place for wine in Chapel Hill

Studio 91 features over 30 wines by the glass, focusing on ’boutique’ vineyards, vineyards producing less than 5,000 cases per year of any one wine. They also offer gourmet cheeses, meat and antipasti plates, all served with fresh bread. Additionally, according to their website, they pride themselves on a ‘6 oz. Pour’!

Weekly Specials

Monday “Create Your Own Plate” – select 3 items for $10 (with the purchase of 2 glasses of wine)
Tuesday – taste 5 wines for $18
Wednesday “Dames Night Out” – purchase of a glass of wine and receive a complimentary gourmet truffle
Thursday Night Flights – select 3 Wines from a list to taste for $12

Plus, live music every Friday & Saturday night beginning @ 8:30pm.

New Wine Shop in Knightdale, NC

For those of you on the east side of Raleigh, I was just informed of a new wine shop, East Wake Wines, that opened in November. The owner, Ken, has free wine tastings every Saturday from 1-5pm.

I’ve added this to the wine tasting calendar and Ken promises to keep me updated about special events, so hopefully we’ll hear more about this new wine shop.

Anyone reading this blog should already know that the Triangle has many great wine shops and plenty of restaurants that offer delicious wine dinners throughout the year. However, when wine doesn’t quite fit the bill, maybe branch out and try one of the many local breweries in our area like the Carolina Brewery, Triangle Brewery, LoneRider Brewing Company, Big Boss Brewing Co. and Boylan Bridge. Not to mention the nearby Duck-Rabbit Craft Brewery and Red Oak Brewery.

All this prompted by a great article on “An abundance of local seasonal brews” from Indyweek.com.

Hope Valley Bottle Shop is planning a special tasting to celebrate their first anniversary on Tuesday, August 25 from 5-8pm.

Vineyards at SouthPoint of Chatham County will open on September 5 with a newly remodeled wine tasting room, deck overlooking a pond, and a large picnic area among the vines.

Guy Loeffler, the vintner and general manager, has been making award winning wines for several years at Horizon Cellars. This new venture will focus on classic wines, but also stock Horizon Cellars meads, country wines and fruit wines.

There will be a tasting fee and tours are available. Produced wines will include: Chardonnay, Viognier, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Chambourcin, Merlot, and seasonal specialties.

Their website is in it’s infancy stages at the moment, but you can join their mailing list.

It’s been one year since we started this little website about wine events in the Triangle and I hope all of our readers have been enjoying our site as much as we’ve enjoyed updating it.

We’ve been very fortunate to have made a lot of new friends, both online and in person, thanks to this website and corresponding Twitter account.

So, Happy First Birthday to us and hopefully many more years filled with delicious wine dinners and tastings to report on!

Eric and I have been big fans of Rosé ever since our trip to Spain last year. There is a good variety to these wines, but our favorites trend to the dry and fruity side. Wine Authorities in Durham has the best selection of pink wine in our area and in their newsletter this week, they’ve announced the current line up…

Hooray! As a side note: I have a particular stake in this as I designed this website for Drew and Thomas, but now you will be able to get tasting information directly from the source.
