Txakoli Fest 2010 @ Six Plates (7/24)

Six Plates is hosting the 2nd Annual Txakoli Fest on Saturday, July 24th to celebrate the spritzy Spanish wine. Tickets are now on sale and only available at Wine Authorities or at Six Plates. Wine Authorities will accept cash for the tickets and sells bottles of Txakoli if you want to ready your palate before the festival.

This year they’re doing things a little differently. 150 tickets will be available for advance sale that permits entry to the festival between 2-5pm. For $10 you get a cider glass to use at the event and to take home, and the opportunity to order any (or all) of the eight featured Txakolis by the glass and menu. After 5pm it’s general admission (also $10 per person, glass still included).

Personal Disclosure: We went last year and would like to note that the admission price gets you in the door and a souvenir glass but all the wine and food is for purchase. We were underwhelmed, it was very crowded (which explains why they are doing advance ticket sales this year), and waiting over 10 minutes in line for an $8 glass of wine was not a good time for us. Your mileage may vary.

A Note from Matthew Beason (added 7/15): We are trying to streamline everything this year to do a better job of serving the public.  This year our menu will be much more Basque centric for food, but our friends at Brooklyn pizzeria and Nosh will be offering other items for food throughout the day.  Our music line-up has gotten much more detailed and we have added a tent and stage outside to make the bar and inside more accessible to everyone.  The band line-up is at www.sixplates.com/txakolifest. We are offering our seven txakolis this year by the glass from 2-5 and then only three txakolis from 5pm and later. We will also have a cash bar for those txakolis and and draft beer outside as another option for people to get served much quicker. Again, thank you so much for helping to spread the word. We hope you’ll give our little festival another shot.
