The Chapel Hill Wine Company is hosting a free special California wine tasting from 5-7pm on Friday, February 20 featuring the Dierberg Family of wines from Santa Barbara County.

From the CHWC Newsletter:

One family, two distinct terroirs, three unique brands: Owners Jim and Mary Dierberg began in 1996 by purchasing Star Lane Vineyards in Santa Ynez, with the climate and terrain suited to Bordeaux varietals, and today Star Lane focuses on their Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon. In a competive tasting experiment with certified sommeliers, their 2005 Star Lane Cabernet ranked in the top 5 California Cabs, along with such names as Caymus Special Select, Hundred Acre, Hourglass, and Opus One, and it’s about 1/4 of the price! Later in 1996 they purchased vineyard area in cooler Santa Maria, and subsequently added a property in the Santa Rita Hills, to focus on Burgundian varietals, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, and these are the Dierberg Estate Vineyards. The third brand is called Three Saints, and focuses on showcasing gorgeous Santa Ynez fruit in more value-oriented bottlings, and the Three Saints Cabernet we’ll feature that evening may be the new store favorite under $25. All the wines we feature that evening will be discounted 15%.
