Corks for Kids: drink wine, support UNC hospitals
leandra wrote this on August 25, 2008
On Thursday, September 11th and Friday, September 12th, Durham and Chapel Hill restaurants will host winemaker dinners, where tables of 6-10 people will be seated with a winemaker from Australia or New Zealand for an intimate evening of dining and drinking.
On Saturday evening, all fifteen winemakers will get together at the Friday Center in Chapel Hill to showcase their wines. Try over 70 wines and order your favorites for as much as 20% off, average retail price of the wines is over $35, so there should be some good ones. There will also be plenty of snacks and a live and silent auction with collectible wines and other wine-related items.
Most importantly, ALL of the proceeds from the event and sales of the wines go to benefit the N.C. Children’s Hospital, located in Chapel Hill. Nearly your entire ticket fee, the silent auction, the live auction—all of it goes to the kids. $50,000 was raised last year and they are hoping to top $100,000 this time around.
Visit the Corks for Kids website for more information, to register for any of the winemakers dinners or to purchase a ticket for the wine tasting on Saturday evening. You can also email Todd Wielar at the Chapel Hill Wine Company.
