Buitenverwacht… huh? No need to pronounce it, just enjoy.

On our last visit to South Africa, we explored quite a few wineries, one of which was Buitenverwachting in Constantia. We had tried the ‘Beyond’ sauvignon blanc at the Frisky Oyster in Greenport, NY just before we left but the name difference threw the winery folks for a loop on our visit.

So you can guess how excited we were to see the ‘Beyond’ almost two years later on the shelf during our last visit to our favorite little wine shop in Durham! We bought two bottles and drank one that very night. The aroma of toasted peanuts and citrus is fantastic. A lot of South Africa whites can taste stressed because of the use of bush vines (rather than trellised vines) but this one is sharp and delicious.
